Sporting condemns discrimination and supports Famalicao player: “Let’s raise our voices”

Brazilian of Famalicao Otavio Atide revealed on Tuesday that he had received racist insults on social networks after the match against Sporting on Sunday in La Liga.

Sporting on Wednesday condemned the discriminatory acts and said it supported Famalicao player Otavio Atide, who condemned racist insults on social networks after the match with the Lions, as well as the “millions of people who are targeted every day”.

“Sport condemns any act of discrimination, regardless of origin or destination. It was so yesterday, so it is today, and it always will be. We were born this way, we were raised this way, we were educated this way. It is written in our DNA and in Article Three of our Statutes,” they note. In a statement posted on social media.

Sporting confirmed his support for everyone who “raises his voice and moves” because he was a target of any kind of discrimination or violence, noting that similar cases are repeated on social networks, but they “do not end in the digital world.” Not in the world of sports.

“We support Ottavio Attide. We support all the millions of people who are targeted every day in the same or similar way. But we go further: we appeal to all who, as in this case, have joined and raised their voices, to always do so, and endure this daily struggle and continuous,” the document confirms.

Sporting is also asking to “speak up” against “aggressive behavior” on the national lawns.

And he concluded, “Let us all raise our voices against all kinds of aggressive behavior, which we witness every week in Portugal, inside the same stadiums by managers and technical teams. Or outside them, including physical attacks on the media.”

Sporting defeated Famalicao, 1-0, in Lisbon, in the match of the third round of the Spanish League.
