Rhodes – The tourism effort is causing a stir

The fire brigade, local emergency agencies and other emergency agencies had more than enough to do for just over a week in nonstop attempts to try to keep the wildfires on the Greek island of Rhodes under reasonable control.

The “unexpected” help also voluntarily made itself available.

Tourists help

In particular, the image of two German women in a hotel near the resort of Lindos who were seen fetching buckets of water from a pond to help put out fires in Rhodes, drew widespread attention.

Relentless effort has been mentioned before, among others The telegraph.

Also German Mercury He confirms that many tourists took part in fighting the fires.

Other tourists have been observed in similar attempts, who, among other things, fetched and delivered water from the sea to firefighters to put out the flames.

Thousands have been evacuated

Yesterday, Monday 24 July, Dagbladet reported that several tens of thousands of people had become evacuated and dispersed to different parts of the 1,400-square-kilometre island.

The Telegraph also reported that several people had been evacuated from the island.

Already on Saturday, Notodden’s Steinar Kvamme claimed that the situation in Rhodes was both Chaotic and tragic.

Challenges

He came out harshly against the travel company TUI and made it clear to Dagbladet that the organization seemed objectionable and inconspicuous.

In an email to Dagbladet on Tuesday 25 July, TUI Norway’s Director of Communications, Anne Mork-Longren, stated that all tourists had been moved to safe areas on the island.
