Keep your wooden cutting board clean (and sanitized) with these tips

sWooden boards are a necessity in the kitchen, but unfortunately they accumulate a lot of dirt and bacteria. So, Woman and Home asked Stevie Scheib, chef at Campbells Prime Meat, for some tips. They help ensure your board is always clean and sanitized.

Tips to help you keep your wooden cutting board clean and free of bacteria:

  • Clean after each use With hot water, washing-up liquid and a brush. Allow the board to dry completely before storing or using it again;
  • Whiteboard disinfection regularly using a homemade lotion. Just mix equal amounts of vinegar with water, put the mixture in a spray bottle and apply it to the board. let it act for a few minutes and wash with hot water;
  • Use salt and lemon on the toughest stains and odors. Cover the board with a generous amount of salt, then with half a lemon, start rubbing the wood with the salt. Leave it on for 20 minutes and wash it off.
  • Sand and oil the board frequently.. “Gently sand the board every month to remove any knife marks,” the chef suggests. Then he explains that he should apply “food-grade mineral oil or a specialty oil to the cutting board once a month or as needed.”
