Galax has introduced a series of updated PCIe 5.0 hard drives – the read speed of models from the HOF Extreme 50S family has been increased to 12.4 GB / s. The novelty is also equipped with a fairly large cooling system with a small fan.
The manufacturer announced the original HOF Extreme 50 series of PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs in December last year. At the time, they were among the fastest solutions on the market, offering read and write speeds of up to 10 and 9.5 GB/s, respectively. However, in recent years, models with faster memory and better optimization have appeared, which made it possible to overclock SSDs.
The updated HOF Extreme 50S provides sequential read and write speeds of 12.4 and 11.8 GB / s, respectively. So far, the manufacturer has only released the 2TB HOF Extreme 50S model. Random read and write performance of 1.5 million IOPS.
Along with the new product, the company continues to release the 1TB HOF Extreme 50 model with read and write speeds of 9.5 and 8.5 GB/s and random read and write performances of 1.3 and 1.1 million IOPS, respectively. In addition, the manufacturer continues to release 2TB HOF Extreme 50 with sequential read and write speeds of up to 10 and 9.5 GB / s, respectively, and random read and write performances of up to 1.5 and 1.25 million IOPS, which are 25% lower than the speed of Updated HOF Extreme 50S.
According to Chinese sources, the HOF Extreme 50S uses the same Phison PS5026-E26 memory controller. The company also plans to release a 4TB version of the drive. Note that the upgraded 2TB solid-state drive will be available for sale “in the near future,” but its cost relative to the Regular Edition is undetermined.
