Health records a 30% decrease in dengue cases in Susanoo

The first quarter of this year resulted in 83 positive cases of the disease, while in the same period of 2022, 118 confirmed cases were recorded.

Preventive work by the Zoonoses Control Sector of the Municipal Health Department led to a significant decrease in dengue cases in Susanoo. After the data was released for the first quarter of this year, there was a 30% decrease in the number of patients with the disease compared to last year. Till April, 83 positive cases have been verified, while in 2022, the number is 118 in the same period.

The work and assistance in the neighborhoods hardest hit by the disease is carried out without interruption by 20 endemic disease control agents, who also receive support from community health agents and other sectors of the municipal administration, such as the status check department, which works to clear the rubble accumulated in vacant lots , and the Municipal Ombudsman, with the acceptance of complaints.

Prevention is carried out through house-to-house measures, carried out routinely throughout the week, and also in an intensive manner on Saturday, a day dedicated to work focused on areas with the highest population of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits the disease. Mapping of points of greatest interest is supported by the Assessment of Larvae Density (ADL), which is carried out four times a year to monitor strategic points, including scrap yards and other places that promote scrap accumulation.

Zoonoses control follows a schedule of actions that respond to population demands through complaints, occurrence of positive cases, or increased prevalence of Aedes aegypti. Last weekend the clients were in the Miguel Badra Baixo neighborhood, and in recent weeks they have passed through Jardim Monte Cristo, Jardim Colorado, Villa Orubis and Tabamaraguara. The next site to be visited is Jardim Revista, on May 20th.

According to the sector coordinator, Priscilla Arab, in addition to the control and prevention work carried out by the municipal administration, one of the other ways to ensure limiting the spread of the disease is to encourage the use of repellents by those infected. “Among all the other guidelines we are implementing that aim to eliminate standing water in homes that can be a breeding ground for vector mosquitoes, an important issue is awareness on the part of the sick person. The use of repellents, especially in these cases, prevents mosquitoes,” she explained. From accessing the virus and transmitting the disease to other people.

The municipal health minister, Pedro Ishi, has requested that residents receive health agents who promote visits with the aim of preventing the disease. “It is very important that residents help us in this work, so that we can prevent an increase in dengue cases.
