The WWE superstar underwent a name change to just “Ali,” however, the company ended up reversing the decision later on.
Since Mustafa Ali had wrestled under the same name since 2016, WWE decided in March 2019 to drop his first name.
Already in November of the same year, the company decided to return to its old name “Mustafa Ali”.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Mustafa Ali commented on this change:
Just go with the moment. The most important thing about WWE, and I think entertainment in general, and maybe life in general, is that I think people take things very personally.
There is a personal association with my name, right? Mustafa. That means something to me, but it’s not like they’re sitting there and saying, “Hey, let’s mess with him.” It was a calculated decision.
I went and asked why. I said, “I’m not fighting it, just why?” So what happened was, during the time I was there lovableAnd in live events, where the crowd wanted to cheer me on, half of the crowd started singing “Mustafa” and the other half started singing “Ali”. They couldn’t tune in and this happened over and over again.
What do you think about changing the name completely?
