Portugal is part of tier 2 of the Euro’2024 – Handball draw

The Portuguese handball team will be part of Draw 2 in the draw for the 2024 European Championships, which will take place on May 10 in Dusseldorf, Germany, according to the European Handball Federation (EHF).

Portugal will be second out of four groups, along with Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Hungary and Austria, in a tie that sees Sweden, Spain, Denmark, France, Norway and Iceland seeded.

The 24 nations that will take part in Euro 2020 will be divided into groups of four in the preliminary round, with Germany already selected for Group A, Croatia in B, Iceland in C, Norway in D and European champions Sweden on E and the world. Danish champion in the F Championship.

The two strongest groups in each of the preliminary round groups advance to the main table in the competition that will take place from January 10-28, 2024 in Germany.

The Portuguese national team will attend for the eighth and third time in a row in the final stage of the European Championship, after participating in the 1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2020 and 2022 editions.

Portugal’s best ever ranking is sixth place in 2020, in the edition held in Austria, Norway and Sweden.
