Amy Graham had perhaps the worst possible sporting start to the 2023 season, when she fell at the hands of her horse at the Gold Coast Turf Club in Queensland in connection with a competition at the start of January.
The impact was so serious that it resulted in hard injuries to the head and teeth. Blood flowed, and I lost several teeth.
reminded the star with a cheeky message
However, Graham does indeed see the light at the end of the tunnel.
– Fortunately, I’m fine, but it still hurts. I ran out of painkillers yesterday, so I’m going to the doctor today to get more, and hopefully get cleared to work again, so I can compete at the weekend, she told Dagbladet.
Graham’s trainer, John Zilk, explains how the brutal injury came about.
– The horse threw its head back, and then the area at the back of the head, between the horse’s ears, hit Amy in the face, Zelke told the site RaceNet.
Heavy bill
As if the injury itself wasn’t tragic enough, a long period of rehabilitation awaits the rider.
She was told that a dentist is asking for $20,000 for reconstruction. In Norwegian krone, the amount corresponds to 199,000.
Fortunately, she does not have to pay the amount out of her own pocket.
– I don’t quite know what it would be like, but at least I don’t have to pay for it, because it’s covered by my job insurance. The teeth were held together in their natural place, but there was talk that I needed dentures.
She continues:
– I will see another surgeon for a renewed evaluation. In any case, there isn’t much that can be done before the injury and trauma heal, and I’m told this will take time.
Death broke her
Unfortunately, the horse accident isn’t the first that Graham has had in recent years.
Again in December 2021 Her good friend drownedand fellow jockey Chris Carcetta, when the two went swimming in Australia.
– I had no words when I realized this morning that I would never see your smile at work again. I don’t know what to feel. I don’t know what to say other than I’m sorry, I’m sorry I couldn’t save you, Graham said at the time.
She later explains that she will use death as a motivation in future competitions.
