Pablo Mari (Monza) was killed and injured in a stabbing in Milan

Spanish defender Pablo Mari, who is contractually linked with Arsenal and on loan at Monza, has been stabbed in a Milan shopping center, RAI reports.

The attack occurred at 6:30 pm (5:30 pm in Lisbon), when the suspect took a knife from the shelves of a supermarket located inside the shopping center and began stabbing attendees.

The 29-year-old, who was taken to Flamengo by Jorge Jesus, was one of five people attacked by a 45-year-old man, three of whom were taken by helicopter to hospital in critical condition. On the social network Facebook, the head of the Lombardy region, Attilio Fontana, said that a young employee of the supermarket had died.

Adriano Galliani, vice-president of Monza, confirmed that Marie confided him that he was lucky, to have seen someone die in front of him, after hitting his back. Galliani explained that the Valencia defender had a “deep wound to his back”, but was “not in danger” because he did not reach vital organs, but needed several stitches.

The manager added that the defender was “clear” and even joked that he “will play on Monday”.

The attacker, who suffers from mental disorders, was initially under the control of some people and then by the police, and was eventually arrested.

And the Carrefour chain, to which the supermarket belongs, expressed in a statement its “full solidarity with the employees and customers involved in the attack and their families.” The company also activated the “psychological support service for all employees directly or indirectly involved in the accident.”
