The Knowledge Olympiad is the theme of this evening’s spatial outlook

Also known as the “Science Olympiad,” the event consists of intellectual competitions among students, usually from primary and secondary schools, or even university undergraduate courses, through written and practical exams. These young people are specially trained to compete for medals, cultivating their cultural bond and a spirit of excellence.

The modalities are diverse: mathematics, physics, chemistry, computing and technology, biological sciences, humanities, astronomy, among other things. In common, all of them have the fact to motivate students and teachers in this amazing process of exchanging experiences and knowledge.

To talk about these competitions, which play a fundamental role for the future of science in Brazil and the world, the Olhar Espace Friday (21) will welcome Professor Eugenio Reis.

A graduate in Physics with a full degree from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), he holds a major in Science Dissemination from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), an MA in Astronomy from the National Observatory (ON) and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the same institution.

He has been the Science Education Coordinator at the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences (MAST) and a PCI Grant recipient for the AstroEducadores Project in ON. Currently, the Jr. Science Startup Scholarship Program coordinates. CNPq/MCTI for beneficiaries Auxílio Brasil is the Deputy National Coordinator of the Brazilian Olympiad in Astronomy and Astronautics (OBA), and is responsible for the team selection process for the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (OBA) and the Latin American Olympiad in Astronomy and Astronomy (OLAA).

This year, a Brazilian team won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the IOAA, which was held in August, in Georgia, and another team won five gold medals at the OLAA, which was held in October, in Panama. The 2023 team selection process has already begun. On October 14, the first of the three online tests for the first phase of the dispute took place.
