Iranian Embassy in Oslo: – Violent demonstration

Many people act violently and aggressively. Many people are trying to get to the embassy. The police have a large number of resources on site to regain control, read the first message from the police on Twitter.

Many arrested

Police said 30-40 people were arrested and detained.

According to the Dagbladet reporter at the scene, there were up to a hundred people gathered at the embassy, ​​and the police were ready with tear gas.

Policemen are on the scene wearing riot gear — many of them have gas masks, Dagbladet reporter at the scene says.

The director of operations initially told Dagbladet that there were approximately 100 people who took part in the demonstration, which was not announced, outside the embassy.

– Many of them must be violent. He said they threw stones and some tried to storm the embassy.

The police received a report of the incident at 1.47 pm.

Requires a reaction

The demonstrators are demanding responses from Norway and demand the closure of Iran’s embassy.

– We ask you to get away. Let’s organize this peaceful demonstration. We want freedom and democracy, these are basic rights. We are here to demonstrate against the Iranian regime that has attacked schools and innocent children, says a protester outside the embassy.

According to the Facebook page of Kurds in Norway, the demonstration aims to show support for the Peshmerga, a Kurdish military unit. Recently, Kurdistan has been subjected to several Iranian attacks, in which civilians were killed and infrastructure was severely damaged.

The group of Iranian Political Prisoners for a Free Iran (IPFFI) announced a demonstration at the embassy starting at 5 pm on Thursday.

Kamal Khahnoud, a representative of the Organization of Iranian Political Prisoners for a Free Iran (IPFFI), told Dagbladet shortly before 3 pm that he was not aware of the unannounced demonstration outside the embassy.

There have been large demonstrations in Iran in the past two weeks after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while being detained by the morality police. The regime killed many during these demonstrations.

Earlier on Thursday, the State Department (MFA) tightened travel advice for trips to Iran. They ask Norwegians to avoid all trips that are not strictly necessary to the country.
