The exhibition aims to present research projects to students

The Science, Technology and Innovation Fair, the largest science event aimed at basic education in the state of Rio de Janeiro, is approaching. The exhibition, in its sixteenth edition, aims to present research projects to students from primary, middle and technical schools in public and private schools. Fecti is held annually by the Cecierj Foundation, associated with the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation, and attracts many young people who take advantage of the event to present the work being developed at the school. This is the case of Luna Telles Fernandez, 16, of Colégio Estadual Sol Nascente, in Cachoeiras de Macacu. She is the author of the project “Biodiversity in the Palm of Your Hand: Using an App for Conservation,” which was awarded in the 2021 edition. Luana won the Junior Science Initiation Grant (ICJ – CNPq).

“In Cachoeiras de Macacu there are many Atlantic Forest Conservation Units, such as the Três Picos State Park. My project is to identify unknown and endangered species through an unnatural application,” explained Luna, a sophomore in high school. She said the implications of the award were “huge and astounding,” both in the family and among colleagues and teachers.

“Everyone was very proud of me and the project. The award played a very important role, as it made me believe more in myself and in my abilities. The young ambitious scientist said that the Fecti program is very interesting for student development, because it gives us the opportunity to study science and technology in adolescence.”

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN FECTI

Students from sixth to ninth grade must register their projects in science classes in Elementary School II; and high school and technical students in the categories of biological and health sciences, exact sciences and earth sciences, technology development or interdisciplinary (art and science, science and society, science and sports, science education and teaching, and history of science).

Projects can be developed individually or in groups of up to three students. Each teacher may participate in up to four projects; The student will be able to register for only one project. Each school may compete with up to four projects, with possible exceptions in the case of affiliated group science fairs.

Presentation and award of final projects

Final projects will be presented and evaluated by the Scientific Committee at an event to be held in Rio de Janeiro on November 26 and 27. Finally, the award ceremony will take place. The exhibition will be open and free to visit. This year, FECTI will award a trophy to the school where first place is developed in each category and medals to students and teachers from the three best works.

In addition, the Science Publication Awards will be presented to students and professors who are the authors of the best project and Girls in Science to the group made up of outstanding female members. Winners will also be nominated to participate in exhibitions, such as FEBRACE (USP); FenaDante by Colégio Dante Alighieri (SP); Young Science (Olinda Science Space) and MOSTRATEC (Liberato Foundation in Novo Hamburgo).

FECTI is implemented by the Scientific Publishing Sector / Scientific Vice President of the Cecierj Foundation and has the support of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Foundation for the Support of Technical Schools (Faetec) and the Fundação Amparo à Pesquisa do State of Rio de Janeiro (Faberge).
