Charles Leclerc, in F1-SF95 #16 of Scuderia Ferrari, took pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix. Round 6 of the Formula 1 World Cup 2022 takes place tomorrow (14.00 hours), with 66 laps of the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit – and in the sweltering heat, the predictions confirm!
It is the 24-year-old Monaco’s thirteenth place in Formula 1 and fourth this season, but only first in Spain. Historically, on this track with 4,675 km and 16 turns, a place on the starting grid is crucial to the final result, with 23 victories in 31 races taken from first place at the start of the Grand Prix!
Leclerc “closed” qualifying with a score of 1.18.750 m and took advantage of Red Bull’s power outage Max Verstappen, which prevented the world champion from battling with the leader of the 2022 World Championship for the “pole”. Charles has 19 points more than his rival in the Drivers’ Championship and celebrated his four F1 victories (two this year) after starting from pole position in the grid.
In Spain, Ferrari finished first for the 14th time, achieving a result not celebrated since 2008 (Kimi Raikkonen). Mercedes have not missed the lead on the grid at the Barcelona Circuit de Catalunya since 2012. Then Williams defeated them in qualifying, along with Pastor Maldonado, after disqualifying Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, the fastest in that session. Today, only the Briton has managed to set the sixth best record.
