In the face of the severity of the disease this year, the city council established a technical committee to investigate diseases related to arbovirus with the aim of investigating the deaths and the most serious cases of dengue.
According to Doctor and Interim Municipal Health Minister Talitha Martins, the commission must assess why dengue is more aggressive and requires more medical care, leading to more hospitalizations.
The group will also assess whether this year’s dengue deaths are linked to other diseases, such as Covid-19.
“This year we noticed a significant increase in dengue cases as well as a higher death rate compared to previous years in the city. Most of the people who died this year from dengue were elderly, with comorbidities, who were hospitalized in the special network. By improving investigations And knowing more about the issues, we will be able to adopt new procedures and take actions targeting that specific audience,” Talhita said.
