“Benfica supporters threw lighters at me so maybe they will stop smoking”

Andy Robertson, Liverpool team, was asked about an incident that occurred in the final part of the confrontation with Benfica, at the Estadio da Luz (1-3). The Scot was about to take a corner kick and faced some frustration from the local fans.

“They weren’t satisfied. Throw me some lighters, but maybe that will help them quit. We have to see the positive. It’s something we see a lot, people get hurt by it. Luckily, they passed close by but no one hurt me. I know it’s frustrating, That stage of the game, but you should avoid throwing things in the garden, because it can hurt people. I just tried to round the corner and get out of there as fast as I could,” he shot Andy Robertson with smiles in the mix.

Speaking to BT Sport, the left-back also spoke of Luis Diaz, who scored Liverpool’s third goal.

“Louis was well received, wasn’t he?” The reporter’s question sparked laughter from Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane, who was by his side.

“He was well received from the start (laughs), and it is clear that he played in a rival for them. It was a good ending and gives us a two-goal lead, so it was important.”
