Ball – Sporting were attentive but Svilar will indeed go to Roma (Benfica)

Mile Svilar’s future will pass through Roma from next season, with the goalkeeper terminating his contract on June 30 and leaving Benfica at no cost. The Reds give the player already that he lost and end negotiations on contract renewal.

The 22-year-old Serbia international rejected Benfica’s offer of renewal and showed his readiness to face a new challenge in his career after five seasons spent in the service of the Eagles. Sporting also followed the position of the Serbian player born in the Belgian city of Antwerp, but Svilar wanted to leave Portugal. Roma and Real Sociedad are the two clubs interested in the project of Jose Mourinho and Thiago Pinto, Roma general manager and former Benfica manager, which convinced the Serbia international.

Svilar terminated his contract on June 30 this year, and played only for the B team. As usual for the Reds’ third goalkeeper, Svilar was not used in the main squad, either by Jorge Jesus or Nelson Verissimo. In recent weeks, he has rotated with Leo Kokubo in this position.

Signed in 2017/2018, Mile Svilar paid Benfica around €4.5m to Anderlecht for the 17-year-old goalkeeper. Svilar has played nine matches this season, three of them in the Champions League with Manchester United and Basel.
