A number of civilians were killed and dozens were injured after a residential area in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv was bombed Monday afternoon.
Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov said nine people were killed and 37 wounded.
Four people came out of a shelter to fetch water when they died. A family, two adults and three children were burned alive in a car. Terekhov says it’s really awful video messagewhich was reproduced by Ukrainian edition of the BBC.
The carpeted residential area is located northeast of Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine.
The attack was reproduced in several photos and videos circulated on social media. You see on these multiple explosions that descend over apartment buildings.
The mayor says the city has never seen such destruction in recent history.

AFP took pictures of a destroyed school (see below) which, according to local residents, caught fire after the bombing.

Biggest explosion in Kyiv
There were also reports of a large explosion near Kyiv on Monday night.
The plane alarm went off first just before 6pm, and again just after 7pm on Monday night, Norwegian time.
BBC It has been confirmed that the explosion occurred in the Poznyaki district of Kyiv.
Sky News Reports just before 6 p.m. Norwegian time said images from the last minutes show a large explosion lighting up the sky in Kyiv, where it is now dark.
