Security reinforced after French pilot’s plane explodes

The French driver sustained injuries to his legs that even forced him to undergo surgery, from which he is already recovering, while the “operation to return to France” is underway.

The organization of the Dakar All-Terrain Rally, whose 44th edition kicked off this Saturday in Jeddah, decided to enhance the safety of the convoy, after an explosion hit the car of French driver Philippe Butron before starting.

Butron was in a car with five other Sodecars members when the car came to a sudden halt due to an explosion near the Donatello Hotel in Jeddah.

“Its source is still unknown, but no possibility has been ruled out, including the act of Kidd,” the organization said in a statement.

Therefore, the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) decided as a “precautionary measure”, to “increase security” in the hotels and event camp.
