American designer Virgil Abloh, 41, and creative director of luxury brand Louis Vuitton, died Sunday after a two-year bout with “rare and severe” cancer, the family announced.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, father, husband, son, brother and loyal friend,” reads a note posted on the designer’s Instagram.

The owner of the off-white fashion brand also suffered from cardiovascular sarcoma, which was diagnosed in 2019.

“For more than two years, Virgil has bravely fought a rare and dangerous form of cancer. He has chosen to fight this battle privately, undergoing numerous treatments, all while coordinating various institutions of fashion, arts and culture,” it reads. in the publication.

The president of the LVMH Group, Bernard Arnault, publicly lamented: “We are shocked by this news. Virgil was not only a genius and a visionary, but also a man of beautiful spirit and great wisdom. The LVMH family was together at this moment of great sadness,” he wrote on Instagram.
