How to use AssistiveTouch on Apple Watch – MacMagazine

How to activate AssistiveTouch

You can activate AssistiveTouch either from your iPhone or from the Apple Watch itself.

No iPhone

Open the Watch app, and go to Accessibility »AssistiveTouch and activate it. Right below, in Hand Gestures, each one can still be customized to your liking.

No Apple Watch

On the clock, go to Settings ” Accessibility Help contact and activate it. Tap on Hand Gestures and activate it as well.

If you want to learn how to use each gesture, simply click on “More info” under the Hand Gestures control and select each one to train. To customize gestures, go to Hand Gestures, tap on one and customize it.

On both the iPhone and the Apple Watch, you can also customize the other actions of this feature. Among them, we have the motion indicator, scan pattern, and action menu, for example.

How to use AssistiveTouch

With AssistiveTouch and hand gestures properly enabled, you can now use the feature on the watch. The gestures and commands for each of them are:

  • Pinch two fingers: Progress
  • Pinch two fingers twice: Counting
  • handshake: game
  • Handshake twice: Show Action List

How to use the motion indicator

Likes movement indicator, you can control the watch by tilting it sideways or up/down. This can be useful when you want to navigate other parts of the application’s interfaces.

It can be customized under “Motion Cursor” in the AssistiveTouch section – where you can also adjust sensitivity, runtime, motion tolerance and quick access edges, for example.

To use it, let’s take the example of an Activity app. First, make sure that the clock screen is visible and the list of apps is displayed.

Once done, double tap to open AssistiveTouch, put two fingers together to select the action ‘Tap digital crownand tap to touch it.

If not selected, tap two or two fingers together twice to move forward or backward into the app and tap to open it. Double tap to display the action menu; Keep two fingers together until you select the Interact action and tap to play it.

Tap to select “Motion Cursor” and tilt your Apple Watch to position the cursor at the bottom of the screen to scroll up. To scroll to the Sharing section of the app, place your cursor on the right edge. To click a button, hold the cursor over the button for a short while.

If you want to go back to the watch face, double tap to open the action menu, and pinch two fingers together to select the action “Tap digital crownand tap on it to touch it.
