Sony’s new PS5 model weighs less because it has a smaller heatsink

A new PS5 model began shipping in Australia, Japan, and parts of the US earlier this month. New design for pregnant women Mysterious weight loss. Thanks to a teardown video from Austin Evans do YouTubeNow the mystery has been solved: Sony has changed the heatsink that helps cool the PS5.

The new heatsink is much smaller than the original and makes up for every 300 grams (0.6 pounds) of weight loss, according to Evans. It’s not clear why Sony changed the heatsink so early in the PS5’s life cycle, but Evans noted that its unit got hotter as a result — with rear exhaust temperatures rising 3 to 5 degrees. It may be due to manufacturing difference.

Sony uses this heatsink to cool the PS5, and the console features a heat pipe and airflow designed to create the same level of steam room performance. The heat sink, solid copper plate and aluminum dissipation fins take up a lot of space inside the PS5 and contribute significantly to its overall size. It’s interesting to see Sony shrink the size of this segment, and hopefully this is the first sign that the company is working toward a smaller PS5 model. PS5 is the version The biggest gaming console in modern history.

Evans concluded that the changes made the PS5 worse, due to the high temperature recorded on it. This might make the PS5 launch more desirable, if it’s repeated elsewhere. “I don’t think there is any argument that this is a worse console, at least for heating and cooling,” Evans said. “As far as I’m concerned, I’d rather launch the PS5.”

The analysis comes as Sony reveals it Edition no longer sells for $499 PS5 lost yet Last year’s reports suggested Sony has struggled to keep PS5 costs down, thanks in part to an expensive cooling solution. Evans only unlocked the PS5 digital version, so we’re not sure if Sony has also swapped out the model’s cooler with the drive.
