UFMG – Federal University of Minas Gerais

Academic event

This Friday, 27th, at 3pm, The Project women in science It is in its third edition and brings together researchers from the Brumadinho UFMG project. The initiative consists of implementing internal public calls for selection of research and extension sub-projects, supervising their implementation and implementation, as well as coordinating procedures developed to assess the impacts of tailings dam collapse at Vale’s Córrego do Feijão mine in Brumadinho (MG), which was held in January 2019.

The outage caused loss of life and strong social, economic, infrastructure and environmental impacts, particularly in Ribeirão Vero Carvao and in Rio Parapepa. As a result of this turmoil, the Second Public Finance Court of the Judicial District of Belo Horizonte, together with the UFMG, established a scientific technical committee to identify, characterize and evaluate the effects of the collapse, and thus assist in cases within its jurisdiction.

The participants in this edition, Natália Sátyro, Sheila Latchim and Paula Guimarães, will share their thoughts and lessons learned about the initiative and also about their journeys in the middle of the research.

The event promoted by the Foundation for Research Development (Fundep) – one of the country’s key directors of science, technology and innovation, a supportive institution of UFMG and more than 30 national technology and research centers – in partnership with the State Center for Innovation, proposed universalizing access to research and demystifying what concerns scientists Through continuous dialogues and exchange of information with participants about the realization of projects that affect the community.
