The Chelsea centre-back has explained the secret to his longevity
Thiago Silva has built a successful career in European football and remains at the top of the game at the age of 39, with a permanent place at the heart of Chelsea’s defence. It’s not a unique case, that’s for sure, because there are many central defenders who have become true examples of longevity throughout history and there are still a few who stand out today, like Pepe. But, in the end, what is the secret of this “eternal youth”? In the case of Thiago Silva, the recipe includes… filling the day to the max.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, the Brazilian international described his day and revealed that he deprives a team of seven professionals who care about every detail every day. To give you an idea, the Canary defender has to share his day with a doctor, nutritionist, physiotherapist, agent, lawyer, press officer and personal trainer. “24 hours a day is not enough,” he began, adding: “They think I’m wasting money because there are too many people around me, but it’s quite the opposite. It’s an investment.”
As it is easy to imagine, Thiago Silva’s daily routine contains no “dead” moments. “I wake up about eight in the morning and I have to be in Cobham [centro de treinos do Chelsea] 8:45 am. I arrive, have coffee, do what I have to do. Then I recover after working out at the gym and when I get home I rest for two hours in the hyperbaric chamber. When I wake up, my team of professionals is ready to continue my recovery, dinner and supplements. I also try to be with my family. Sometimes I take my kids [que estão na academia do Chelsea] “I’ll go to training and see.”
