Group Calls for Termination of Dr. Osei Afriyie Appointment

A civil society group, Food Sovereignty Ghana has appealed to President Nana Akuffo-Addo to reconsider his nominee for the Agriculture ministry.

According to the group, the minister-designate for the sector, Dr. Afriyie Osei, does not have the qualities to head the ministry.

The Communications Director of the group, Edwin Kweku Andoh Baffour, said the nominee failed to champion policies to prevent the challenges in the agric sector when he was minority spokesperson on Food and Agriculture.

He indicated the sector is faced with challenges such as low production, low level of technology, inadequate number of agricultural extension officers, shortage and a high cost of labor and prevalence of pests and diseases as some of the challenges confronting the agricultural sector and therefore needs a competent person to handle the issues.

Mr Baffour stressed the current excessive importation of food products is one of the negative outcomes of Dr Akoto’s tenure in Parliament  as minority spokesperson on Food and Agriculture and is however speaking to the president to terminate his appointment.
